This page contains a list of cheats, codes, Easter eggs, tips, and other secrets for Sid Meier's Civilization V for PC. If you've discovered a cheat you'd like to add to the page, or have a correction, please click EDIT and add it.
A Civilization VI cheat to activate debug console and use 'Reveal All' Map command guide. The process requires making changes to '.ini' file.
Spying Trick[edit]
Instead of randomly selecting a successful looking civilization and sending spies on a whim, look to the intel that is provided more readily. If you check for possible trade routes and notice that you can gain science knowledge through trade, that also means you can send a spy to that civilization and improve yourself using more devious measures. It's a great way to avoid wasting precious resources.
Reveal Map Using the Debug Console[edit]
Alter your game files at your own risk and ALWAYS make backups!
You can reveal the full map by editing the game's .ini file to grant access to the debug console. Find the file at the following default location:
DocumentsMy GamesSid Meier's Civilization 5
Edit the config.ini file so that 'DebugPanel = 0' is changed to 'DebugPanel = 1' and then save.
In-game, you can now press ~ (the key above TAB) to access the console and change settings. Selecting the 'reveal all' option will reveal the game map. Most other standard debug functionality does not appear to be available within the game, however.
Debug Mode / World Builder[edit]
Note: Alter game files at your own risk and always make backups. Enter the game folder and select the config.ini and open it in a text editor.
Find the line that says:
; Set to 1 to activate the debug panel
DebugPanel = 0
Change the number 0 to 1 so that it now looks like this:
; Set to 1 to activate the debug panel
DebugPanel = 1
Save the file and start up Civilization 5, then start a new game and press ' / ~ (or the key above Tab) and a debug panel will appear on the right hand side of the screen. You can use this to alter the game in numerous ways.

Infinite gold and resourcesWhen trading with the AI, give any strategic or luxury resources and as much gold per turn as possible, then click the 'What will you give me for this?' option. The AI will break and will offer huge amounts of gold and gold per turn just for the resource. Alternately, ask for anything desired from the AI (cities included) and start putting gold (not gold per turn, only normal gold) until they accept the deal. Then, reduce it until you are as close as possible to the required amount (for example, 25,890 gold of 26,000 required) and click on the 'Make this trade equitable' option. The AI will break and will ask an amount of gold per turn proportional to how close you were to the real price. This glitch can also be used in multiplayer matches that include AI. Note: This glitch was performed on an unpatched version of the game. It will eventually get patched. To avoid not being able to use this exploit, either do not install new patches before using this exploit or delete the patches.
